Dangers of eating too little

Eating too little while on GLP-1 receptor agonists can pose several risks. While these medications help control appetite, maintaining a balanced diet is crucial for overall health. To mitigate these risks, it’s important to work with your healthcare provider or a registered dietitian to develop a balanced eating plan that complements GLP-1 therapy.  Here are some potential dangers of inadequate calorie intake:

  • Nutrient Deficiencies: Consuming too few calories may lead to a lack of essential vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin D, calcium, iron, and B vitamins. These nutrients are vital for overall health, including bone strength, immune function, and energy levels.
  • Muscle Loss: A significant reduction in calorie intake can cause the body to break down muscle tissue for energy, leading to muscle loss. This can negatively impact your metabolism and physical strength.
  • Slowed Metabolism: Severely restricting calories can slow down your metabolic rate. A lower metabolism can make it more difficult to sustain weight loss and may lead to feelings of fatigue.
  • Low Energy Levels: Inadequate caloric intake often results in decreased energy, leading to fatigue and weakness that can affect daily activities and overall well-being.
  • Cognitive Impairments: Insufficient calorie consumption can impact brain function, causing difficulties with concentration, memory, and cognitive performance.
  • Digestive Issues: Extremely low calorie intake can worsen gastrointestinal problems, such as constipation or nausea, which can be particularly challenging if you’re already experiencing side effects from GLP-1 medications.
  • Electrolyte Imbalance: A very low calorie diet can disrupt your electrolyte balance, which is crucial for muscle function and heart health. This imbalance may lead to symptoms like dizziness, irregular heartbeat, and muscle cramps.
  • Mental Health Effects: Restricting food intake can affect your mood, leading to irritability and even depression. A balanced diet is important for maintaining emotional well-being.
  • Hormonal Disruptions: Insufficient calorie intake can affect hormone levels, including those that regulate hunger, metabolism, and reproductive health.

We offer a comprehensive approach to your weight loss journey, combining effective GLP-1 medications with personalized supplements to support both your health and goals. Our focus is on enhancing the effectiveness of your treatment plan while promoting overall well-being. Through our physician affiliates, we provide convenient telehealth services for screening and approval, and our supplements are thoughtfully selected in partnership with Persona Nutrition to complement your weight loss progress.

Getting started is easy! Simply complete a brief health assessment through our telehealth platform. A licensed healthcare provider will review your information to determine if you qualify for GLP-1 therapy. If approved, your prescription will be sent directly to you. Additionally, we'll arrange a supplement consultation through our partnership with Persona Nutrition to create a customized supplement plan tailored to your needs.

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) medications, including semaglutide and tirzepatide, are prescribed to manage blood sugar levels and support weight loss. These medications work by mimicking natural hormones that regulate appetite and insulin production. This helps you feel fuller for longer, supports healthy blood sugar levels, and promotes weight loss when used alongside a balanced diet and regular exercise.

Our licensed healthcare providers prescribe a variety of medications tailored to your unique needs, including FDA-approved anti-obesity medications and certain off-label medications for weight loss. We also offer compounded medications, prepared by 503A and 503B pharmacies that follow stringent standards set by the FDA. However, please note that while these pharmacies adhere to FDA guidelines, compounded medications are not reviewed or approved by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or intended use.

As with any medication, side effects may occur. The most common side effects of GLP-1 agonists include GI effects. For most users, these side effects are resolved within a few weeks. However, it’s important to inform your healthcare provider if you experience any issues while taking a new medication.

If you don’t qualify for GLP-1 medications or prefer not to use them, we offer personalized nutrition support through our partner, Persona Nutrition. Their team can help you explore natural alternatives and supplements that support weight management and metabolic health. Whether you choose to focus on natural solutions alone or in combination with your medications, we’ll work with you to create a plan tailored to your needs.

Pricing varies based on your personalized treatment plan and includes the cost of your medication, unlimited access to your medical provider, and consultations with a nutritionist. We offer transparent out-of-pocket pricing, with the cost remaining the same at every dose.

We do not currently accept insurance, FSA, or HSA. However, we provide clear, upfront out-of-pocket pricing before you commit to the service, and the cost stays consistent with each dose. What you see is what you pay!
